 Dear
Father,
I
come before You hoping and praying that You can
work a miracle in my heart. There's a lot about me
that needs changing. I'm not talking about needing
some minor repairs; Lord, I need a complete
overhaul.
I've tried to change on my own, Lord, but it just
hasn't worked. Past mistakes haunt me, and present
inadequacies chain me to who I am today, not who I
want to become. I want to experience the personal
growth that I know You've called me to, but I
don't know how to get started. Failed efforts have
discouraged me, and I find it hard to believe that
I will ever make any forward progress.
I
feel powerless to change.
I
want the fruit of the Spirit to be in me: Those
characteristics sounds so beautiful, but so unlike
who I am. I want to live "by the Spirit", I want
to "Keep in step with the Spirit," as Your Word
says in Galatians 5. But where do I start? How do
I begin? I seek Your help, Lord. I ask that You
teach me how to change. I ask that You show me
what I need to do to start the process. I want to
be like You.
I
eagerly await Your response.
You can have full confidence that I have heard
your prayer and that I will act on your behalf.
For whenever you pray according to My Will, and
your desire to be like Me is definitely according
to My Will, then you can know that you have
already received what you have asked of Me. Your
desire for change is the right place to start; Now
you must put your desire into action, so that your
willingness is matched by completion.
If you desire to be kind, then begin by doing
something kind. If you desire to be a forgiving
person, then begin by forgiving someone who has
wronged you. If you want to be a loving person,
then express your love in actions. In order to
attain the characteristics you desire, you must
pursue them diligently, and you must make every
effort to be holy.
Becoming like Me requires that you no longer
conform to the ways of this world, but that you be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. (By
reading the word) As your mind is changed, you
will be able to figure out what My good and
perfect will is for your life.
As you put your desire into action, you will see
Me do amazing things in you, for I am able to do
immeasurably more than all you could ask or
imagine. My power and My Word are at work in you
this very minute.
